| Welcome In order to protect the public from food contamination resulting from accidents as well as intentional malicious or terrorist acts, Governments have introduced legislation to make traceability records mandatory for farmers and all downstream participants in the food chain including retail establishments. Traceability records state who supplied a food item to an enterprise (input) and who purchased a food item from an enterprise (output). This information helps, in an emergency, to trace where contaminated food came from, to identify, quarantine and withdraw remaining contaminated stocks from sale and thereby protect the public. European Union Open Access Traceability Reports is a free service which provides open public access to traceability records generated and maintained by the AgroTraceability online service. This service provides comprehensive traceability reports on demand and in real time. It provides a rapid response for local, state and national authorities in case of emergencies. Associated online systems, such as AgroTrade and AgriComex allow traders to see produce traceability records before purchase. The free consumer information service, HowFresh? also provides another source of information, including traceability information, drawn from the same data base.
